This 90 minute class will share an approach to search planning that does not rely on spreadsheets full of numbers. After a series of tough searches, Matt Jacobs (founder of CalTopo) and other California SAR members took a hard look at the planning techniques widely taught in the SAR community. Recognizing the importance of matching search tactics to behavioral scenarios, the influence of terrain on subject behavior and the utility of universal GPS tracks, they developed an alternate process based around the ICS Planning P cycle. This presentation will condense the core of a 32-hour search management class built around that process into a 90-minute whirlwind tour.
